Anatec has extensive experience in performing transportation risk assessments.

We have recently undertaken several detailed studies to investigate the risk associated with different routeing options for the transportation of radioactive material and hydrocarbon waste, such as NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material).

This included assessment of three modes of transport:

  • Road (via HGV)
  • Rail
  • Sea

Extensive analysis of historical accident data was performed to ensure the risk models were appropriately calibrated against the latest experience. The road and rail assessments covered risks such as collision and fire. The sea assessment considered the risk of collision, foundering, grounding and fire / explosion, based on the route passage plan.

The studies concluded by recommending the optimal route based on minimising the risk of an accident, as well as highlighting potential mitigation measures and industry best-practice.
